  • WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Friday, September 20, 2013, The Hay-Adams Author Series will welcome Christopher Buckley, author, satirist and Forbes editor, to discuss his novels including his latest, The Eat Puppies, Don’t They?, while dining with guests at The Top of the Hay, the Hotel’s elegant rooftop spaces overlooking the White House.

After graduating from Yale University in 1975, Buckley became managing editor of Esquire magazine before moving to Washington, DC in 1981. After working as the chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush, he wrote his first novel The White House Mess, a satire on White House office politics. He went on to write additional satires including Thank You for Smoking about the tobacco industry, which was adapted into a movie in 2006, and the humorous Little Green Men about UFOs. Buckley’s No Way To Treat A First Lady, Florence of Arabia and Supreme Courtship have political themes, while his one serious book, Wet work, is about a billionaire avenging his granddaughter’s death. Currently an editor at Forbes, he has written for additional national publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.

Hans Bruland, Vice President and General Manager of The Hay-Adams, will host the Author Series, along with Jonathan Yardley, book critic at The Washington Post and Pulitzer Prize recipient. Tickets for the event, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., are $85 and include a three-course meal, wine, tax and gratuity. A selection of Buckley’s books will also be available to purchase.  For tickets and more information, visit www.hayadams.com and click on Author Series or call 202.220.4844.

The September 20th Author Series will also celebrate the upcoming 2013 Library of Congress National Book Festival on the National Mall September 21-22.
