- The Hay-Adams hosts Isabel Allende for the Select Author Series luncheon on Friday, September 24th.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Friday, September 24th, The Hay-Adams Select Author Series will host a luncheon to celebrate Chilean author Isabel Allende as the recipient of the Library of Congress's Award for Creative Achievement, which will be presented at the 2010 National Book Festival.
The luncheon will be held at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C. which will serve as a temporary home for the Select Author Series while the Hotel undergoes renovations throughout the summer. Kay Enokido, President of The Hay-Adams, will host the event and will be joined by co-host Marie Arana, a Kluge Distinguished Scholar at the Library of Congress and writer-at-large for The Washington Post.
"We are privileged to once again welcome a world-renowned author to the The Hay-Adams Select Author Series," said Enokido. "The tradition and legacy of the Author Series is continually enhanced by the presence of authors such as Allende and it is our honor to pay tribute to her as she receives this distinguished award."
Ms. Allende was a renowned journalist in her native Chile before becoming an author and lecturer. She has taught literature at some of America's finest institutions including the University of Virginia and University of California at Berkeley.
Guests will be able to order a copy of Ms. Allende's most recent book "Island Beneath the Sea" while making their reservation for The Hay-Adams Select Author luncheon. Politics & Prose will deliver the ordered copies of the book to the luncheon. "Island Beneath the Sea" was published by HarperCollins in April and is available in both hardcover and paperback.
About The Hay-Adams Select Author Series
Throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, notable authors including Mark Twain and Edith Wharton congregated at the homes of John Hay and Henry Adams (now the site of The Hay-Adams) to discuss politics, art and literature. The Hay-Adams Select Author Series was launched to recapture that tradition. Previously invited authors have included Maya Angelou, Patricia O'Toole, Robert Merry, Marie Arana, Marcus Mabry, Jenna Bush and Robert Bennett, John Grisham, and David McCullough.
